Decking

Whether you are thinking about a large elevated split-level deck for or a small intimate space for relaxing. We can design a deck for your home and provide several different options for decking materials, including real timber, hardwood planking & composite decking. All photos on our site are examples of work carried out by the Poole Fencing Company.

Decking is a superb way to enhance any home, garden or commercial property. A natural product in harmony with the environment, decking lends itself to a tremendous variety of forms and styles, all of which bring added beauty and value to any building or landscape. Timber decking is highly flexible and provides extra social space that’s ideal for children playing, dining, entertaining, or just simply relaxing. Whatever the reasons for creating a deck, it’s one of the most attractive additions that can be made to a home.

The keys to building quality decks are:

The frame

The frame is the foundation to your deck. We build our frames using treated joist material (as thick as is currently used in new house builds). This is bolted and screwed using the best coach screws and galvanized bolts.

The footings

Depending on the ground the frame is usually supported by means of another frame , or sub - frame which in turn is suported from posts concreted into the ground. The whole thing is built over a weed suppression membrane. This construction, although it seems like overkill, will support your deck and give it a lifetime exceeding that of most other decks.

The boards

In order to get the best value for money, we like to build using the longest lengths possible (fewer joints). We use 28 -32mm boards, no wider than 150 mm. This ensures less warping and keeps the deck looking newer for longer. The boards we use come from sustainable forests.

Balustrade

This is down to personal preference, some people like a solid rail whilst others want something more ornate. (A balustrade is recommended for decks over 50 cm from the ground). We have pictures to help you decide which one suits your deck.
